About This Spot

Stepping into Hometown Cafe feels like a gentle pause from the bustle of Richardson. This unassuming spot offers a quiet, welcoming space where the hum of casual diners moving through the self-serve line creates a comforting rhythm. It’s the kind of place where the pace slows just enough for you to take in the simple pleasure of choosing your meal at your own pace, surrounded by the aroma of home-cooked Chinese and Taiwanese flavors.

The atmosphere is relaxed and straightforward, a neighborhood nook where families, office regulars, and solo visitors alike find their rhythm. There’s a subtle warmth in how the dishes are showcased—each plate a small discovery, inviting you to sample a little of this and that, from savory braised beef rolls to tender orange chicken, all served with the grounding presence of freshly steamed rice and a steaming bowl of house-made soup.

Hometown Cafe’s appeal lies in its honest approach to comfort food, where variety meets simplicity. It’s a place where you might pause to watch the everyday choreography of people building their meals—a green onion pancake here, a spicy fish or pan-fried radish cake there—each plate a story of flavor and tradition. The generous portions and approachable prices add to the feeling that this isn’t just a meal, but a shared moment of nourishment and ease.

Whether you’re stopping by for a quick lunch or settling in for a quiet, no-fuss dinner, the quiet hum of happy diners and the steady flow of fresh offerings create a sense of familiarity that’s hard to find in a typical takeout spot. Hometown Cafe is a place to slow down, savor, and enjoy the craft of simple, satisfying food—without rush or pretense.

Home Town Cafe offers a great variety of options for vegan and chicken-only eaters at very reasonable prices. I tried two chicken sides with rice, and the portions were huge! The taste of the food was also good, making it a satisfying meal.

ALL YOU CAN DRINK SOUP without additional charge if you dine in. ONLY $10 for three dishes rice platter. We are a family with 2 adults and 1 kid. $20 six dishes feed us pretty well for one meal and have leftover for the next meal! It is such a great place to go when you do not feel like cooking.

Cozy and delicious Taiwanese-style cafe with lots of options to choose from. Self-serve style. You walk in and the available dishes are on display so you pick the dishes you want and then seat yourself. It comes with white rice and free house soup as well. I always stop by when I’m in the area. Highly recommend!

Think of Lubys or some other cafeteria style restaurant where you walk through a line and select what you want except now it’s Taiwanese food. There are chicken, pork, fish, and beef dishes as well as noodles and vegetables. It’s a little different than the classic chinese buffet. I think if you had not been here it will be a little different than expected. Turns out the three selection and rice is lower in price than the two . I got the cold noodles, fish, and a chicken dish. Wasn’t to thrilled about the fish. I guess I expected it to be a little more crispy. The noodles and chicken were good. Also, they have two soups you can chose from and have as much as you want . I had the hot and sour which is really good. The other soup I believe is a vegetable soup of sorts. The ladies working the line are nice. One of them really is talkative and will tell you what everything is if you ask and it’s not too busy.

This place is great. The food is very delicious, and you have a lot of options to choose from. Price is affordable. We ordered 3 dishes with rice and it’s only $12. It also includes soup. The place feels clean, quiet, and comfortable. I recommend trying this place if you like Chinese food.

This is a home cook cafe style restaurant. They have variety of selection of food to pick from. Simple to order, pick 3 dishes and serve with rice and you can get your own soup. This is a CASH ONLY. They also have a menu you can order from. They do have specialty menu on the weekend. Family always enjoy coming here. Every gets to pick what they like. $10 for a meal.
